Eva Cabanelas, Scientific Disseminator by profession

In the era of fake news, scientific dissemination has become increasingly relevant to build a healthy and critical society. Something that years ago was done in leisure time, today it is already a profession that has more and more interest on the part of students.

An example of this is Eva Cabanelas, born in Ourense in 1988, with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a PhD in the same field from the same university, where she also obtained the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2019.

Cabanelas has extensive experience in the field of animal health research, with various publications in scientific journals. In addition, in 2015 she carried out a research stay at the Berne Institute of Virology and Immunology, in Switzerland, thanks to a grant from the Barrié Foundation.

However, her true passion is scientific dissemination. In 2017, Ella Cabanelas was a semifinalist in the Famelab Spain scientific monologue contest, and in 2020 she won the BCNspiracy nanochat contest. In addition, she is one of the promoters of the Scientific Monologue Contest in Galician Ciencia Calidade.

Currently, Cabanelas combines her teaching work with scientific dissemination and giving talks and workshops in schools and institutes. In addition, she is a collaborator of the science camp for high school students XuvenCiencia, which takes place in Lugo.
But her commitment to popular science doesn't stop there. Ella Cabanelas is working on the "Scientific monologues at school" project, with the aim of bringing scientific dissemination closer to the high school level.

On June 2, within the educational day of the Maker Faire Galicia, we will have the opportunity to learn about the work of Eva Cabanelas, to promote scientific culture and bring science closer to society. Her work is an example for those young people interested in popularizing science, and it is a sign that science can be interesting and accessible to everyone.
