This year at the Maker Faire Galicia we held the third edition of the Game Maker Jam, an event that is surpassing itself year after year, increasing in the number of participants and in the quality of the video games presented. Perhaps at this point it is not necessary to explain what a Game Jam is, but in case you are new to this world, I will tell you.
Why Game Jam? This term comes from the words "game" and "jam" which refers to "jam sessions" or musical sessions that are mostly improvised. In Game Maker Jam the objective is the creation of video game prototypes in a free, novel and almost improvised way. The first Game Jam was held in 2002 by Chris Hecker and Sean Barrett as a game design and programming event to encourage experimentation and innovation in the video game industry.
El tema central de la Game Maker Jam se descubrirá durante las jornadas profesionales, concretamente el 1 de junio y se comunicará en redes sociales a las 17:00. Desde ese momento se iniciará la competición y finalizará el 4 de junio a las 18:00. Un jurado formado por profesionales y académicos relacionados con el sector de los videojuegos valorará los desarrollos y el día 5 se anunciarán los ganadores durante la ceremonia de entrega de premios de la Maker Faire Galicia.
This competition seeks to promote creativity and the development of video games, as well as to serve as a platform on which to meet people and establish relationships between the different participants. Therefore, the intellectual property of all the content created for each game will be owned by the members of each team.
Regarding the characteristics, the competition will have a 100% online format and any person or group can participate without restrictions of any kind, the only limitation is that the same person can only be part of one team and the teams can be a maximum of 3 people.
But as this year the Maker Faire Galicia recovers its face-to-face format, at the fair we will have a space dedicated exclusively to the Game Jam in case some developers want to create their video games at the fair itself, living in an incredible atmosphere.
